{"id":432,"date":"2010-10-15T09:11:27","date_gmt":"2010-10-15T16:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brownstonedesigns.com\/?page_id=432"},"modified":"2010-10-15T12:04:48","modified_gmt":"2010-10-15T19:04:48","slug":"about-4","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brownstonedesigns.com\/?page_id=432","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>MELINDA BROWNSTONE<\/h1>\n<p>Melinda Brownstone was born in Los Angeles, California.\u00a0 \u00a0Her parents made the move from East to West shortly before she was born.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother was a fine artist, of Hamlin-LaTourette Studios.\u00a0 Her father is a skilled musician, craftsman and mathematician.\u00a0 Being surrounded by the arts from an early age, she naturally developed a high affinity for the creative.<\/p>\n<p>She worked as a landscape designer in the early 90\u2019s and progressed into home design over a decade ago.\u00a0 She was formally trained in landscape artistry, as well as working in a nursery for several years under the tutelage of an Italian landscape designer.<\/p>\n<p>As a designer, whether for a home, garden or event, her goal is to help the client realize his or her goal of comfort and beauty.\u00a0 She believes in working with the client\u2019s creative sensibilities, not overpowering them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your view of design?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy personal viewpoint of design is that there are few rules.\u00a0 Some designers insist on conformity with or adherence to strict rules of design, and I believe that restrains creativity more than it helps.\u00a0 Making sure that colors conform with the original integrity of the house or adhering strictly to a theme are rules that were made to be broken.\u00a0 The only \u2018rule\u2019 I have is that each space has a wavelength of aesthetics\u2014find it, follow it, and you\u2019ve hit your mark.\u00a0 Ultimately, it\u2019s the client who has to live in the space.\u00a0 My goal is to make the space as much a part of the client as the client is a part of it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe that, \u2018People don\u2019t know what they want.\u2019 \u00a0On the contrary, I believe people know EXACTLY what they want\u2014they just have a difficult time illustrating it and that\u2019s where I come in!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you feel is your best asset?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have an ability to listen to a client and extrapolate the exact idea the person has for the environment.\u00a0 I have a talent for getting the picture the client has and making it a reality through design.\u00a0 I\u2019m sort of an aesthetics mind-reader, so to speak.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any favorite type of design?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough it\u2019s not my personal preference to have a Modern house, I love the cleanliness and airiness of Modern design.\u00a0 But I don\u2019t like a sterile or stark look; I like to feel cozy.\u00a0 I love when Modern design commingles with rich antique tones and pieces to create a space that\u2019s both clean and inviting.\u00a0 My personal favorite is Mediterranean\/ Spanish\u2014I find its warmth, richness and depth incredibly welcoming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Least favorite type of design?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo design. And I don\u2019t mean there isn\u2019t anything I don\u2019t like; I mean when I walk into a house and there is a mish-mash of pieces that have no continuity, when there is no cohesion to the space and it feels disjointed. Yuck!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any favorite words about design you\u2019ve coined to describe the indescribable?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>\u2019Life Style Designer\u2019<\/strong> It means one who can help create a world for the client, from organization to event planning, to interior to landscape.
